About the Conference


The student association at the Department of East Asian Studies/Japanese Studies (University of Vienna) is holding the first European Student Conference of Japanese Studies (SCEJ) in cooperation with the German Association for Social Science Research on Japan (VSJF) from the 13th to 15th of November 2026.

MA- and advanced BA-level students will present their theses and research projects in 15-minute talks. Between talks attendees will have the chance to exchange ideas and network with other students and scholars in the field of Japanese Studies.


Tides of Change (潮)

The theme of the interdisciplinary conference is “Tides of Change (潮)”, focusing on developments and transformations in all aspects of Japan. Whether you are exploring the tides of language, culture, society, or other topics in the broader field of Japanese Studies, all contributions are welcome.
